When You Have More Questions Than Answers About Your Martial Art Training

Boring Instruction - Incomplete Teaching - Frustrating Books and Videos

...Where Do You Turn...

The purpose of the discipline curriculum is to positively reinforce the importance of following rules, maintaining good behavior, and performing at high standards. Each class, we will cover these skills with a wide variety of activities that are fun and at the same time educational. The main purpose of this curriculum is to teach to focus their mind and body. In the intermediate level the student must not just focus on the target but at the same time focus on each of their techniques kick or hand strike while hitting a target. In the Advanced level the child is execute techniques where the child takes his/her eyes off the target momentarily for a second and then reacquiring the target again with the same focus on techniques such as in spinning kicks These activities focus on joint flexibility, muscular strength and stamina. Students who are not fit spend valuable time focusing on the way they feel rather than what they should be doing. These students can also have a short attention span and are unable to sustain physical tasks. A high level of fitness will give greater endurance on task. Martial Science provides activities to develop strength, endurance and flexibility. The ability to move the body from one point to another, whether it is by running, hopping, skipping, jumping, etc. The easier we can achieve this motion the less likely it will hinder us in any way. The student with poor locomotion skills doesn’t plan an effective route and will often seem to wander from place to place or look clumsy and be easily distracted. Student learns how to stabilize their body joints. By educating or reeducating the nervous system through proprioception training. Sudden alterations in joint positioning that necessitate reflexive neuromuscular control, utilizes balance and postural movements, designed to stimulate muscular co-activation. This type of training allows for greater loading of specific joints which result in a larger strength increase, producing a stronger and more functional joint. You are only as strong as that which you can stabilize We need to be able to hold our balance whether we are still or moving. Children develop knowledge of their midline and use this to keep their balance, whatever position their body is in. Children with poor balance have difficulty finding a comfortable sitting or standing position. They will spend time thinking about their balance rather than concentrating on the learning activity they are doing. These children continually shift position, fidget and often display a short attention span. Some children see themselves as one-sided or no-sided and may have trouble with their balance and direction, reverse letters, do mirror writing or start on the wrong side of the page. The purpose of this curriculum is to teach the child how to have control of their mind and body. In the beginner level the child is taught to have control over their mind and body by responding quickly to commands while in motion and the practice of blocking drills. The intermediate level introduces the child to having control of their body and mind when they are kicking and punching toward each other and the blocking of a kick or punch thrown at their person. The advance level teaches the child how to have control of the strength when practicing their joint locking techniques. The purpose in this part of the curriculum is to get the child familiar with remembering the basic martial art techniques and how to perform the techniques correctly to the best of their ability. In the beginner level the child is introduce to the names and the mechanics of the basic strikes, blocks, kicks, and stances. Then the child is asked to perform random combination at the intermediate level to test and strength his/her memory. And at the advanced level the child is required to perform prearranged structured martial art self-defense techniques and form (coordinated This part of the curriculum is to teach the child, how to work and cooperate with other on various tasks. The beginner level introduces the child to good working habits with other people. In the intermediate level they learn to work or perform together in teams. In the advanced level teaches the child how to train with others while following the rules and maintaining good sportsmanship. Sensory motor foundation skills rely on the interaction of sensation and movement. We receive sensory information from our bodies and the environment through our sensory systems (vision, hearing, smell, taste, touch, vestibular, and proprioception). This sensory information then needs to be organized and processed to be able to produce an appropriate motor or movement response to be successful in daily tasks at home or at school.

Imagine a school where the instructor shows you how to perform, step-by-step, each movement and technique. Where you learn principles and theories, including the science which supports your martial training. Where you develop your body to work as a single powerful cohesive unity, not just as a collection of disconnected body parts. Muscles nor joints work in isolation. You will feel guilty when you think about all those years spent not developing to your full potential.

Straight line Motion vs Circular Motion

Straight line or linear motion is less effective than curve or circle motion. Linear motion requires sharp changes resulting in more of an effort. Where as a "Curve or Circular" motion requires less effort. Each link or joint in the chain of a punch or kick is accelerated by the previous link which is already moving around a highly accelerated fulcrum, like that of a bullwhip. By shorting the curvature you are able to create greater acceleration and by elongating the curvature you are able to impart greater angular momentum (the motion of a body and its resistance to slowing down). It is equal to the product of the body's mass and velocity. Martial art is both dynamic and static and the application and understanding of physics with the response of the body to forces applied from within or outside that ? leads to movement must be understood. In other words the transitions and accelerations from one position to a different position as they apply to physics are important to the understanding of the science that underlines the martial art. Your focus should be more on the body structural alignment or proper body positioning rather than speed or timing. All movements performed on earth is resisted movement. So your focus should be on your body's structual alignment, with proper positioning is always of primary concern.
